Professor Alastair Florence is a Distinguished Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Strathclyde and is Director of CMAC providing leadership across the portfolio, engaging with our key stakeholders and driving the Centre’s vision to transform the development and manufacture of medicines. He leads a number of major programmes across the portfolio including the EPSRC Future CMAC Manufacturing Research Hub, Made Smarter Innovation | Digital Medicines Manufacturing Research Centre (DM²) and CMAC National Facility.
He leads the multidisciplinary academic team across the multi-institution academic team driving the ambitious manufacturing research, training, translation and facilities programmes. Working in close collaboration with our industry partners to understand existing or emerging challenges to develop effective solutions delivered by the CMAC programme. Alongside our major Hub and industry manufacturing research programmes, the world-class CMAC National Facility is housed within the Technology and Innovation Centre at Strathclyde. This unique facility offers access for academic and industrial users to state-of-the art processing, analysis and characterisation facilities operated through a dedicated team of experts. In training and skills, the CMAC Doctoral Training Centre offers the well established CMAC PhD programme has recruited over 100 PhDs to date across the collaborative academic network.
His research interests lie in the science and technology associated with continuous crystallisation, physical form control and advanced characterisation of pharmaceuticals and the development of predictive methods for experimental design, processing and control.
