Intro to Python programming

  • In today's data-driven pharmaceutical industry, coding is becoming an essential skill. This course introduces you to the fundamentals of Python programming, with a focus on its real-world application in medicines manufacturing. You will learn how to write clean, structured code, interact with data, and automate tasks that support production, quality control, and compliance.

Through a hands-on, example-led approach, you'll gain practical experience with Python syntax, data structures, control flow, and functions. You’ll also explore how coding tools like Anaconda, the Python command line, and AI tools like ChatGPT can enhance your efficiency as a manufacturing professional.

By the end of the course, you'll be equipped with the foundational programming skills needed to analyse, automate, and support modern manufacturing processes in a pharmaceutical environment.

  • The main objectives of this course are to:

    • Define key programming concepts including syntax, variables, and data types, and explain their importance in the context of medicines manufacturing.

    • Set up and navigate a Python programming environment (using Anaconda or the command line) to prepare for coding tasks.

    • Write and run Python code that demonstrates core programming principles such as conditional logic, loops, and functions.

    • Construct efficient Python code using for and while loops, including nested structures, and apply break and continue statements to simulate common medicines manufacturing workflows.

    • Distinguish between different data structures (lists, tuples, sets, dictionaries) and select appropriate types for storing and processing manufacturing data.

  • Pharmaceutical professionals - Scientists, engineers, and technicians involved in process automation, quality control, and pharmaceutical data analysis.

Research and Academics - Those working in pharmaceutical research, computational modelling, and digital manufacturing who want to utilise Python for data analysis and automation.

Students and early-career professionals - Those studying pharmaceutical sciences, data science, or engineering who want to learn basic Python skills relevant to pharmaceutical applications.
