Senior Technical Operations & Tier 2 Manager

Thomas is CMAC’s Senior Technical Operations Manager, with strategic responsibility for a team of eight technical specialists, 15 laboratories and more than 150 items of specialist scientific equipment within the Sir Jim MacDonald Technology & Innovation Centre. His remit spans technical operations, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, laboratory infrastructure and strategic committee engagement, including SACSOH. He is part of the management team for the CMAC National Facility and his interests include pharmaceutical manufacturing, digitalisation, automation and the adoption of emerging technologies.
Thomas has an MSci in Chemistry and a PhD from the University of Glasgow, where he supervised by Professor Lee Cronin. He joined CMAC in 2011 as a KTA Researcher, collaborating with external industry partners on continuous crystallisation, before undertaking several postdoctoral research roles and progressing to Technical Operations Manager in 2015. He has more than 10 years experience managing lab facilities, over five years experience working with industry/manufacturing, and has contributed to more than 25 academic publications and opinion articles.
