Gavin’s role as the Director, Cancer Research UK Formulation Unit focuses on the development of investigational medicinal products for Phase I/II clinical trial in cancer, covering analytical development, pre-formulation, formulation, and GMP manufacture. Gavin’s academic role covers teaching and research in a range of pharmaceutical science areas.

Gavin’s research interests include medicinal and analytical chemistry, drug physicochemistry, formulation (traditional and advanced) for both parenteral and oral products and the GMP production of specialist pharmaceutical products for early clinical trials. This includes drug targeting and delivery systems, the biopharmaceutical assessment of new oral drugs and formulations and the application of continuous manufacturing systems.

Gavin is a pharmacist, chemist and qualified person with over 35 years experience, a career grant total of over £50 million, a combined total of over 200 publications, patents and presentations. Personal experience of pharmaceutically progressing over 50 novel NCE's into clinical trial, including agents such as temozolomide, abiraterone acetate and rucaparib.
